Thailand Isaan Travel Guide

If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and experience the unique culture and nature of Thailand, Isaan is the answer! Isaan is a region in northeastern Thailand, full of beautiful nature, unique culture, and friendly people.

One good tip to keep in mind when visiting a restaurant is that there is a unique pronunciation in Isaan. For example, the food known as Langchaptani ends with the pronunciation of Chapt, which is a special name created in Isaan. There are other unique things as well, which I will post about next time.

In this article, I will introduce you to the must-see travel courses for those planning a trip to Isaan.

Ubon Ratchathani

This name is the name of a city in Thailand. It is a representative gourmet city in Thailand, and it means that there are many delicious foods. There are many new foods that I have never tasted in Bangkok, and there are also grilled meat skewers that you can eat with various vegetables like Nemrui that I tasted in Vietnam, and there are various foods. There are so many delicious places that it is a city with a lot of Michelin marks. It is close to Laos, so it is also influenced by Laotian food. The climate is a bit humid.

Sampan Bok: A beautiful temple representing Ubon Ratchathani, with impressive colorful murals and sculptures. It is especially beautiful at night when the lights are on. It is also named after its 3,000 holes. Each hole hidden in the rock is different, so finding interesting hole shapes is a unique travel pleasure here.

Khun Phua Buddha Statue: A place with an impressive giant Buddha statue, where you can enjoy meditation in a peaceful atmosphere. Of course, giant Buddha statues can be found everywhere in the world, but you can feel something special only here. Come see the special Buddha statues that are only available here.

Buriram

This is also a place where you can feel the happiness that nature welcomes you. If you take the Don Mueang domestic flight from Bangkok, you can quickly board a plane and go there. The architectural style here is largely influenced by the Cambodian Khmer. Let's take a look at them one by one.

Prathat Phanom Wan Temple: One of the largest pagodas in Thailand, the golden appearance is magnificent. The location and shape are somewhat similar to Cambodia. I was surprised that it was located far from the modern city center and the architectural style was not much different from the Buddhist temples in Cambodia. I first learned about this location at the National Museum in Bangkok, but when I actually visited, it was a really cool Buddhist temple. I recommend you visit it on a nice day.

Buriram United Stadium: This is the home stadium of Buriram United, a famous Thai Premier League team, and it is a must-visit for soccer fans. There are many unique places in Thailand, including the US Air Force base in Ubon Ratchathani, but this place is also really unique. It is amazing that there is a Premier League in Thailand, but visiting the stadium is definitely a fantastic experience.

Korat

This is the gateway to Isan. It is very accessible as you can visit it within an hour from Bangkok. If you have seen all of Bangkok, it is a distance that you can visit once without any burden. The reason you should visit here is because you can feel a different feeling from Bangkok in terms of history and culture. You can feel a different charm from Siam, so I recommend you visit at least once.

Limpo Choek Temple: One of the oldest temples in Korat, it has great historical value.

Mini Siam: A theme park with miniatures of major Thai buildings, where you can see all of Thailand at a glance.

Other areas

Mueang Young: A place where you can observe various wild animals along with beautiful nature.

Kalasin: A place where you can buy traditional handicrafts, recommended for travelers looking for souvenirs.
