Suthat Temple, a hidden gem of Bangkok travel

Stop the boring Bangkok tour! If you want to have a more special experience among the magnificent Grand Palace and temples, I highly recommend Suthat Temple. It is located in downtown Bangkok. I visited here in the evening, and even in the evening, a monk was chanting Buddhist scriptures through a microphone, so I stopped by my accommodation and visited.

Of course, there are many temples and museums with wonderful Bangkok history nearby, but there is a special reason to visit this place. Let’s explore the special charm of this place with me. Suthat Temple, one of the six major temples in Bangkok, is not just a beautiful building, but a living museum that preserves the history and culture of Bangkok.

The special charm of Suthat Temple

Overwhelming scale and beauty: When you first visit this place, you will be amazed by its splendor even from afar. It is located in the middle of the city, and all the roads are centered around this place, so it is very easy to access, and I am sure that tourists have passed by it at least once without visiting it. Also, the main temple, which has the tallest two-tiered pillars in Bangkok, will be overwhelmed by its grandeur. The ornate decorations and sculptures will make you feel as if you are appreciating a work of art.

The scent of history and culture: Suthat Temple, which was started during the reign of King Rama I and completed during the reign of King Rama III, preserves the history of Bangkok intact. You can experience historical stories and Buddhist culture hidden throughout the temple. It is said that King Rama II built Suthat Temple, and in the local language, it is called วัดสุทัศนเทพวรารามราชวรมหาวิหาร.

Whenever I pass by here, I always hear a monk reciting Buddhist sermons loudly into a microphone. And in front of it, there is a sculpture shaped like a pole called Sao Chingcha, which is also a representative Buddhist sculpture. In the local language, it is called เสาชิงช้า.

It is truly a wonderful landmark. Of course, Suthat Temple is not a place that many tourists visit, so the fact that you can go in and appreciate it leisurely was a big attraction for me. And above all, it is so large that it is worth appreciating.

If you have time, why not take a walk around the temple while thinking about the achievements of King Rama II and also appreciate the Sao Ching Cha in front?

Unique Buddha statue: The Sukhothai Buddha statue made in the 14th century is the pride of Suthat Temple. This Buddha statue, which was moved from Wat Mahathat in Ayutthaya, adds to its historical value.

Rama II's artistic spirit: The main hall's door is said to have been carved by King Rama II himself. It is a precious work that allows us to glimpse his faith and artistic talent.

Various statues: The temple grounds are so diverse that it is no exaggeration to say that they are a small sculpture exhibition hall, creating an even richer atmosphere.

Why should you visit Suthat Temple?

If you want to feel the true face of Bangkok: It is not well known to tourists, but it is a very important place for locals. Here, you can feel the true face of Bangkok.

If you want to take special photos: The magnificent architecture and beautiful statues are the perfect backdrop for your life shots.

If you want to spend some peaceful time: Although it is located in the middle of the road and in the heart of the city, you will be charmed by the special tranquility that it has to offer away from the center. If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and spend some quiet and peaceful time, visit Suthat Temple. If you visit here, you will be tired from traveling or just want to get away from the city, and the tranquility will warmly cover you.
