Hello, I am Jones, a travel expert blogger. Today, I will share with you vivid travel tips for Malacca that I personally experienced and felt. In particular, I will tell you in detail about how to travel comfortably from Kuala Lumpur to Malacca, so if you are planning a trip to Malacca, please refer to this article!
I will tell you how to travel from Kuala Lumpur to Malacca and what is the best way to return to Kuala Lumpur after finishing your trip to Malacca, based on my experience.
The reason why you have to go back is that there is no airport in Malacca. And you can go straight to KL Sentral in Kuala Lumpur, so I recommend it. I will also tell you how to get from KL Sentral to the airport, which was a mistake I made, so please read the article carefully until the end.
The Complete Guide to Malacca Travel: How to Get from Kuala Lumpur to Malacca and Back Easily
Malacca is a charming city where you can experience Malaysian history and culture. However, since there is no international airport in Malacca, it is common to enter the country through Kuala Lumpur International Airport and travel to Malacca. Also, Kuala Lumpur KL Sentral Station is a public transportation hub in Malaysia, and it has the advantage of being able to conveniently take the express bus to Malacca.
First, I received an explanation on the best way to get to Malacca at the tourist information center on the 2nd floor of KL Central Market.
First, they said that taking the bus is a common way to get there, and that you can use the airport and train in Malacca, but it is far from downtown Malacca, so they recommended that it is not efficient. And since you have to take another means of transportation to get to your hotel in the city, they recommended that you take the express bus, which is the most popular method among Malaysians.
How to Get from Kuala Lumpur to Malacca: Taking the express bus
The most convenient way to get to Malacca is by far the express bus. Express buses from KL Sentral to Malacca Sentral run frequently and are cheap.
Tickets can be purchased on-site or booked through an app, but they told me to make sure to book through the app. The reason was that the information center staff showed me a picture of the line of people waiting to get their tickets on-site on Google, and I thought, “Would the line be this long on the day I go?” I thought so, but it was my mistake. To get the Malacca Express Bus ticket, if you are departing from KL Sentral like me, take the train from Masjid Jamek Station to Terminal Bersepadu Selatan Station, take the escalator to the 2nd floor, then get your ticket and go down to the 1st floor to board the express bus.
How to take the express bus from KL Sentral to Malacca Sentral
Go from KL Sentral Station to Terminal Bersepadu Selatan Station. Then, buy the Malacca Express Bus ticket at the ticket office on the 2nd floor of Terminal Bersepadu Selatan Station. Then, take the ticket and go to the boarding area on the 1st floor to board the bus.
Ticket Booking Tip: Book in advance with the app and pick up on site If you buy the ticket on site, you may have to wait in a long line, so it is better to book in advance with the app and pick up the ticket on site. I have wasted too much time waiting in line to buy the ticket on site. Getting from Melaka Sentral to the city: Grab or village bus When you get from Melaka Sentral to the city, you can use Grab taxi or village bus. Village bus has the advantage of being cheap and accepting cash.
How to return from Melaka to Kuala Lumpur: Express bus vs. high-speed rail comparison analysis
When you return from Melaka to Kuala Lumpur, you can use either the express bus or the high-speed rail.
Cheap and comfortable return by express bus Express buses are cheaper than high-speed rail and have wider seat spacing, allowing you to travel comfortably.
Fast but expensive return by high-speed rail High-speed rail takes less time than express buses, but is more expensive.
I used the high-speed rail at first, but it was too expensive, so I used the express bus next time. Express buses are comfortable enough and I am satisfied with the price.
Let me introduce my first mistake. I recommend that you make a reservation and pay through the app. And if you make a reservation on the spot, you have to submit your passport and show it at the ticket booth. (If you make a reservation through an app, I don't know how foreigners submit their passports.) Also, there are a lot of ticket issuance booths. If your destination is Malacca, you can get it issued at the ticket booths in the middle of the second floor.
Of course, other than the booth in the middle of the second floor, there is a place that looks like an ATM where you can insert your card into the automatic issuance machine and get the ticket issued by yourself. (Similarly, foreigners have to show their passports when purchasing tickets, but I don't know how to do it there.)
If you waited for a long time and got a ticket for the express bus on the same day, you can go down to the first floor and wait for 1-2 hours to board. After about 2 hours, you will arrive at Melaka Sentral Station. You can get off there and take a Grab to your hotel or take a village bus to your destination. Here's another tip: the village buses here are cheaper than KL Sentral, and you can use them with cash even if you don't have a card. All buses in KL Sentral require a card, so if you don't have a card, you can use public transportation freely in Malacca, which is convenient.
Back Easily Travel Tip: The Cheapest Way to Get from KL Sentral to the Airport
When getting from KL Sentral to the airport, it's common to use the KLIA Ekspres, but it's expensive. I took a bus from KL Sentral to the LRT station, and then took the LRT to the airport. This method is cheaper than the KLIA Ekspres.
When you return, you can do the opposite, but I'll tell you my second mistake here. I remember paying $50 for a one-way ticket from KL Sentral to the airport by taking the KL High Speed Rail. I regret that I should have just taken the express bus instead, because the price would have been 1/5th. I was able to take the express bus during my trip because I had a short schedule. Please refer to this information as well.
I hope you don't repeat my mistakes and I shared my tips from my experience. I hope you have a good trip.
