Tong Bee's Stall Shell Food, a hidden gem in Malacca's seafood street

This is the third installment of a Malacca food review. A seafood street I discovered by chance while traveling in Malacca! Thanks to the Grab driver's recommendation, I visited this place that has been famous for a long time. As someone who enjoys eating cockles in Korea, I had high expectations that I could taste cockles in Malaysia.

I visited Tong Bee's Stall Shell Food. I learned about this seafood street from the Grab driver. He recommended that I visit this street that has been famous for a long time. So I visited it in the evening. And the biggest reason I was able to visit it was because it was close to the hotel I was staying at.

Cockles and TALHO ROJAK, two special flavors

At Tong Bee's Stall Shell Food, I ordered cockles and TALHO ROJAK. The cockles tasted similar to what I had tasted in Korea, but the two types of black sauce were very unique. It was a completely different charm from the red and green sauces that are commonly found in Vietnamese seafood restaurants. Especially, TALHO ROJAK mixed with peanut sauce was delicious with a sweet and sour taste.

I ordered a type of clam called kkomak in Korea, and ordered TALHO ROJAK written as 烧烤四宝. The menu consists of dishes made with seafood cooked or boiled, and the owner was very friendly. And there were many other stores around here, and I wanted to visit other stores, but my travel schedule was so tight that I could only visit this place once, which was a shame.

TALHO ROJAK was served with a very unique sauce mixed with peanuts, and this sauce was sour and sweet, which suited me well. And inside, tofu, vegetables, and clams of the lily type were stir-fried together.

Comparison with Korean kkomak, a feast of amazing sauces

There was not much difference in taste between kkomak grown in the tidal flats in Korea and Malaysian kkomak. However, the sauce was really amazing. Both black sauces had a deep flavor and made the taste of the croaker even richer.

First of all, croaker is a clam that can only be caught in the tidal flats in Korea. Tidal flats are not common in the world, but they are quite common in Korea, and I have been able to eat croaker since I was young. When comparing the croaker here in Malaysia and the croaker in Korea, there was no difference in taste and I could enjoy it equally deliciously. It was very interesting that they provided two sauces for the croaker. The sauce here was something I had never tried before, so it was very interesting. When you visit a Vietnamese seafood restaurant, you are basically provided with a red sauce and a refreshing green sauce, but here in Malaysia, both sauces are black sauces, but they taste different. And the sand was well removed, so I was able to enjoy the boiled croaker deliciously.
