Thailand Travel Made Easy: Agoda eSIM Review

Hello, this is your travel mate, Jonesgo! Are you all preparing for your Thailand trip well? Today, I will tell you in detail about the essential item for Thailand travel that I personally experienced and was very satisfied with, Agoda eSIM. eSIM allows you to use data easily by simply setting up your smartphone without the hassle of purchasing and inserting a SIM card! This is a service that I would like to recommend to those who, like me, have been worried about SIM cards every time they travel abroad. I will introduce eSIM because it is much easier and can be used right away.

Why did I choose Agoda eSIM?

To tell you the conclusion first, I purchased an eSIM from Agoda before leaving for Thailand. Since I was planning to travel to Thailand for a week, I set the period to one week and selected 15GB of data. Agoda also allows you to pay in other countries' currencies, considering the exchange rate. The price is around 88,000 Vietnamese Dong, but with the fee, it's 101,000 Dong, and there's not much difference in Korean currency. It would be around 5 dollars.

So, what I bought was an eSIM that allows 15 GB of data for 7 days and a 30-minute call service, but I only used 5 GB of data for 7 days. This is despite the fact that I was always out of the hotel, except when I was sleeping. I think 15 GB of data per week is more than enough unless you constantly watch YouTube in 4K or watch Netflix outside for long periods of time. Of course, this is just my opinion. If you need to use a lot of data, you should definitely buy more data.

If your phone model doesn't support eSIM, or you don't have a reason to buy a SIM card and install it in your phone, it's definitely a better choice to buy an eSIM. The time it takes to get to a store that sells SIM cards when you arrive at the destination, and the disadvantage of having to replace the SIM card you were using and store it carefully until you return are tasks that consume more energy than you think when traveling. So if you are using a phone that supports eSIM, be sure to prepare an eSIM before you leave. If you haven't prepared one before you leave, please refer to the post I posted last time about purchasing an eSIM in Malaysia and using it simply.

And my thoughts on where to buy it are as follows. I recommended the eSIM purchase method of the Traveloka app that I introduced last time. When traveling to Thailand, it is better to buy an eSIM from Agoda, and when traveling to Vietnam, it is more reasonable to buy it from Traveloka. Please refer to the previous post for an introduction to Traveloka. For reference, I purchased a total of 3 times from Traveloka during my 2-week trip to Malaysia because I was traveling in a flexible manner. And the reason I recommend buying an eSIM from Agoda before traveling to Bangkok, Thailand is because it is cheap and convenient. I bought an Agoda eSIM that allows 15GB of data for a week during my trip to Thailand.

Why did I choose Agoda eSIM?

Convenience: It was really convenient because I could use it right away by just setting up my smartphone without having to bother buying a SIM card after arriving in Thailand and storing my existing SIM card.

Reasonable price: It was cheaper than other places, and considering the exchange rate, I was able to pay in various currencies, which was nice.

Sufficient data: 15GB is enough unless you watch YouTube in 4K or Netflix for a long time. I only used about 5GB during my trip, even though I searched for restaurants, checked my schedule, and used SNS.

Fast speed: I was able to use it without any problems at 4G speed. Thanks to this, I was able to enjoy the Internet without any interruptions during my trip.

Thailand Travel Made Easy, eSIM Real-Use Review

As soon as I arrived at Don Mueang Airport, I scanned the QR code I received from Agoda with my iPad and completed the setup. It's really simple, right? I used it well while traveling around Thailand without any data interruption. It was especially useful when searching for information at museums or historical sites.

If you don't have another device that can scan QR codes or if there's no one around you to ask for help, you can print out the QR code separately and take it with you. If you have two phones, you can save it on one and scan it, or you can ask a companion. I used this method because I was traveling alone.

Of course, there are various options for long-term travelers. I traveled for a week and used my phone to search for good restaurants, make plans, and refer to other people's blogs to plan my next schedule. So I used less than 5GB, but I think it would have been enough for me if I had watched YouTube. The speed is listed as 4G, but this speed is enough. It was fast enough.

Also, please note that the highlight of my trip was visiting museums, art galleries, and historical sites. Even if I had done other activities during my trip, this amount of data would have been enough for me.

Comparing various eSIMs, which one should I choose?

Lastly, the app I introduced has different prices depending on the exchange rate and app service policy of the day, so I recommend comparing different apps at that time.

I previously purchased an eSIM from Traveloka when I traveled to Vietnam, but I concluded that Agoda is more reasonable in Thailand. If you are having trouble deciding which app to choose, it is a good idea to compare the data capacity, price, and carrier provided by each app and choose the product that suits you.
